Objetivo del proyecto

Development of lightweight multimaterial solutions for structural parts

Descripción del proyecto

Replacement of conventional steel solutions with lightweight metals (new steel and/or aluminium grades) combined with composites (Fiber Reinforced Plastics – CFRP and/or GFRP).

Design concepts for both structural and manufacturability/production requirements, through proposed methodology based on two main pillars/concepts:

* Right material in the right place and in optimized quantities, limiting the composite introduction for its use where it offers maximum lightening potential but trying at the same time to reduce its impact on the costs of the component. For this, optimization methodologies for the component geometry and for the composites lay-up will be implemented.

* Competitive manufacturing and assembly processes, focused in maintaining adequate cycles times for each of the main manufacturing/assembly technologies proposed, including also adhesive joining.
